The colourful Yorkshire Coast - 1

To the East of the Yorkshire Wolds, the Yorkshire Coast stretches from the smaller seaside resorts of Withernsea (60M, famous for its inland lighthouse) and Hornsea (61M, famous for its former potteries and discount designer shopping outlet) up to Bridlington (69M, famous for its beaches and bustling harbour).

A little further North is Flamborough Head, with its two lighthouses (the older of which is thought to be the oldest remaining lighthouse in England) and the RSPB site at Bempton Cliffs, which is home to Britain’s largest colony of seabirds.

Still further North are Filey (75.5M) also famous for its sands and for The Brigg – a rocky point at the Northern end of Filey Bay and Scarborough (74M) again famous for its sands, but also for its castle, its cliff lifts and its shopping facilities and nightlife.

Beyond Scarborough is a less-inhabited stretch of coastline with cliff walks and dramatic cliffs, leading up to the picturesque fishing village of Robin Hood’s Bay (96M).
