The variety of the Yorkshire Dales - 1

From the cobbled squares of Richmond (91.5M) in the North East, to the rope-makers at Hawes (106M) in the North West, and down to the market towns of Otley (62M) in the South East and Settle (92M) in the South West, the Yorkshire Dales cover a wide expanse of ground.

The northern Dales are rugged and remote – but they are nevertheless peppered with picturesque villages like Reeth (98M) and Muker (109M).

Waterfall hunters should be thrilled with the three levels of falls at Aysgarth (97M) and with the spout at Hardraw (108M), and train spotters with the view of the viaduct at Ribblehead (117M) which carries the Settle to Carlisle railway through the Dales.

The West is even more dramatic. The Three Peaks of Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-Ghent dominate the landscape whilst there are good watering holes at the market town of Settle (92M), or at the remote village of Horton in Ribblesdale (99M) for the more adventurous.
