The rugged North York Moors - 2

A toll-road passes through the forests at the southern edge of the Yorkshire Moors, revealing a series of beautiful vistas, whilst those who are more agile can walk or take a push-bike to explore further. Those on foot should not miss the Bridestones - a collection of curiously-formed rocks perched on higher ground just outside the forests.

Apart from walking, an ideal way to explore the hidden parts of the Yorkshire Moors is by train, and the privately-owned railway which runs from Pickering (75M) in the South and through the famous TV village of Aidensfield (Goathland 88M) in the North operates at various times throughout the year, as well as running special themed trips.

Buses reach where the trains don’t, and in early Spring, Farndale, hidden deep in the Yorkshire Moors, comes alive when busloads of visitors descend on the dale to view the thousands of daffodils that colour its riverside walk.
